Hollyburn is seeking a Child Care Worker who will be responsible for the day-to-day health and well-being of the residents in the residential program. As part of a team, a Child Care Worker provides therapeutic care, stabilization, and assessment and treatment for youth in-home/community based services.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Vancouver, B.C.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include assisting/teaching youth life skills, as required; responsibility for administrative duties such as maintaining forms and reports for each youth; facilitating recreational and/or education activities; providing input into assessments and youth care plans; encouraging acceptable social standards and setting and maintain appropriate limits.
Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
Demonstrable ability to deal with challenging, street-entrenched youth, strategy development, mediation, counseling, advocacy, community networking, and life skills management; demonstrate knowledge of different child and youth care approaches, the development of your service plans and legislation and government regulations applicable to the program; knowledge of addictions, FASD and attachment issues; excellent English communication skills (verbal, written); knowledge with First Nations Culture and Teachings is an asset; work collaboratively with community resources and within a team setting; and able to multi-task, balancing youth needs with administrative duties of the position.
Completion of at least a two year post-secondary degree or diploma in ECE, CCW, Child Psychology or related field, is preferred. A minimum of one year experience working with children/youth at risk is required, along with at least one year’s experience working in a residential environment. Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license. First Aid/CPR certification is an asset. Must be able to pass a Criminal Records Check.
Salary and Benefits
The position pays $20.77 per hour, based on a 40 hour work week. Benefits include employer-paid BC Medical, extended health, dental, vision care, life insurance and sick leave. A Registered Retirement Savings Plan is also available, along with 10 days’ vacation per year.
